our story

how we began...

The paper forest was largely inspired by my two children and our family love of crafting and imaginative storytelling.

My children have inspired me in more ways than I can count since they've been born - they've changed how I see the world, how I long for time to slow down, even just for a little while, and what is truly important to me in a life that very often feels loud and busy.

In a world full of tech and screens, I've always tried to encourage play that feels slower, more imaginative and alive. For our family, that has included reading, crafting and story telling daily - we used to joke we should have called our daughter Matilda because she loves books so much!

Some of the books I read to our children now are stories I can remember my parents, grandparents and great aunties and uncles reading to me and my sister growing up - in fact some are the very same, well loved books! And the parts I remember loving (particularly the map pages), are now my daughters favourite too!

Watching her use her imagination to create her own stories from these map pages inspired The Magical Mail Club (a monthly snail mail subscription arriving by post, containing whimsical art, stories and stickers - inviting children into a make believe world of magic! Think of it like a deconstructed storybook chapter for children to become the author!)

Something else that has been important to me as a parent is raising children who believe in themselves, in their self worth, their capability and listening to their own needs.
